KISS founding guitarist Ace Frehley dies at 74

Ace Frehley, best known as the Spaceman, the co-founding and original guitarist for the Rock group KISS, has died at the age of 74.

“We are completely devastated and heartbroken," the Frehley family shared in a statement on Thursday. "In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth."

"We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”

It was reported earlier on Thursday that Ace was on life support after suffering a brain bleed from an in-studio fall.

Frehley was an original co-founding member of KISS, starting in 1973, continuing with the through 1982. He returned in the 1990s for reunion tours and ultimately stayed with the group through 2002. Frehley also embarked on a solo career in the 80s, and continued to tour until being recently sidelined from health concerns.

Frehley was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 as a member of KISS.
