(SportsRadio 610) - DeMeco Ryans has emerged as a top candidate for Texans head coach, with mutual interest between both parties, the NFL Network reported Friday.
The Texans interviewed Ryans, the San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator, last Friday ahead of the playoffs' divisional round. The 49ers face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game this Sunday, after which Ryans is expected to meet again with the Texans.

Ryans is in his second season as the Niners' defensive coordinator after three seasons coaching linebackers and one season as a defensive quality control coach. San Francisco's defense ranks atop the league in DVOA, which measures efficiency, according to Football Outsiders.
The NFC Championship game will feature three Texans' head coaching candidates. In addition to Ryans, the Texans have also interviewed Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.
Of course, Ryans was also a star player for the Texans, who drafted him from Alabama in 2006. Ryans was the Defensive Rookie of the Year, a first-team All Pro in 2007 and a two-time Pro Bowl linebacker in Houston.
