LISTEN NOW: Selma Blair joins Gwyneth Paltrow on The Goop podcast

Growing up a sensitive child who had a strained relationship with her mother and teetering in and out of sobriety as an adult, Blair’s life has been anything but easy. Sharing she’d always struggled to find happiness, it was a life-changing moment for the actress when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as she said it offered “receipts” as to why she struggled in the ways she did.
“It didn’t stick until I got a diagnosis and then I developed some self-trust and I’d look at myself like my own child. Like, ‘what would you do to take care of this person?'”
“It was such a relief to have receipts,” she continued. “I did realize with the MS diagnosis a different kind of calm was possible. It was a brain-body balance and I could stop beating myself up so much.”
