The Texans' offensive line took another hit on Saturday when right tackle Tytus Howard exited practice early with a hand injury.
After practice Monday, head coach DeMeco Ryans announced that Howard "would be out a while" with his hand injury.
Ryans declined to specify how long Howard would be out, but according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Howard suffered a broken hand and underwent surgery Monday.
"We will see what 'a while' means. Several weeks, obviously. This is the kind of thing that where it could be six weeks, maybe eight weeks," Rapoport said on 'Inside Training Camp LIVE.'
According to Shaun Bijani of SportsRadio 610, veteran George Fant, undrafted free agent Tyler Beach and 2022 sixth-round pick Austin Deculus split the first-team reps at right tackle in Monday's practice.
The Texans signed Howard to a three-year extension worth $56 million this offseason. The 2019 first-round pick has started 54 games in his first four seasons in Houston.
Howard's injury comes just a few days after starting center Scott Quessenberry was placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in Thursday's practice.
