Texans right tackle Charlie Heck and kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn will not play in their season-opener Sunday against the Jaguars at NRG Stadium, head coach David Culley said Wednesday morning.
Heck was placed on the COVID-19 list Monday after a positive test. Fairbairn has been held from practice since a muscle strain he suffered in the preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Culley said he hopes veteran Marcus Cannon, recently activated from the physically unable to perform list, is ready to play Sunday.
In just his second season, Heck had been the Texans' starter at right tackle, replacing Tytus Howard, who they moved inside to left guard.
Cannon, though, is entering his 11th season and is a three-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots.
Culley said Fairbairn would not kick this week and they are unsure who will replace him. The Texans signed kicker Joey Slye to the practice squad Tuesday.
