(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans are expected to pick up the fifth-year option for offensive lineman Tytus Howard, Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson reported Monday.
Howard, the Texans' first-round selection out of Alabama State in 2019, lined up at right tackle, left guard and left tackle for Houston. The expectation this season is for him to play right tackle, where he shined as a rookie before injuries and later switching positions.
He is set to make $13.2 million on the fifth-year option in 2023.
"I’m really just going to playing wherever the team deems me the most valuable, whether it’s guard or tackle," Howard recently told SportsRadio 610. "I’ve been working out this offseason to become a better player in both, so I feel pretty comfortable playing both."
Last week, the Texans drafted Kenyon Green with the No. 15 overall pick. Green was one of the top interior run-blockers in the draft and could easily earn the starting role at left guard, shifting Howard back to right tackle.
The Texans also signed free agent veteran right guard A.J. Cann, an established starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars who played three years for offensive line coach George Warhop.
