While joking about whether or not her father actually had a DJ career, Coco revealed that her mother was also a singer; singing was literally written in the cards for her. "My mom was a singer growing up so she had songs that became my audition songs," she said.

Some people may have expected a more country vibe from her being that she's from Nashville, revealing that growing up she listened to a lot of old-school R&B and Hip-Hop, so primarily that's where her inspiration comes from.

And as we continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, the "ICU" singer recalls her first memories of being exposed to the genre. "The Slick Rick song, I think it's called 'Children's Story,' I remember I was in the car with my siblings on the way to school and we heard that song and I just thought it was so cool," she said, rapping some of the adlibs "I love the storytelling and the characters... I love that lyricism," she said.

When asked who she would bring on her project, from the past or present, she said she would bring back west coast rap legend, Tupac. "I'm thinking Tupac, that was my dog. I really feel like I love the rawness and he wasn't afraid to really come for folks and I just like that," Coco said.

Dubbing music as her first love, she explained how she used to do talent competitions when she was younger, at the time she was an athlete with a very competitive spirit and the more she did the competitions she realized that she got the competitive fulfillment but also felt her whole self when she sung -- thus the singer was born. "I feel my most me when I'm singing. I loved basketball too... but something felt purposeful when I would sing," she said.
