On Tuesday, Twitter was filled with fans debating whether OutKast is better than The Beatles. Many fans and public figures were taking the stance that OutKast is the superior group.

Chopped 420 host, Ron Funches, tweeted, “when society admits OutKast is better than The Beatles then we can truly start healing.” Funches tweeted his opinion on Sunday, but things began to blow up after OutKast retweeted the controversial opinion with the sneaky side-eye emoji included. This retweet allowed the Twitter debates to really take off.
One fan said, “OutKast could easily write ‘Hey Jude’ but The Beatles could never write ‘Hey Ya!’ and we won’t be entertaining any rebuttals. Thank you for your time.” Another person added, “OutKast could make ‘Come Together.’ The Beatles could never make ‘So Fresh, So Clean.’”
Some Twitter debaters felt that it’s difficult to compare the two groups. One a 1960s British pop-rock legend, the other an iconic late 90s to early 2000s Hip Hop duo that helped put Atlanta’s Hip Hop scene on the map.
A fan weighed in, “I don’t understand slandering The Beatles but I REALLY don’t understand directly tying OutKast to The Beatles. WHY? HOW?” “The Beatles wouldn’t exist without the Black Rock & R&B artists they grew up listening to/emulating but comparing OutKast & The Beatles like Funk ain’t exist?”
OutKast has not released an album since their 2006 record, Idlewild, but this has not stopped fans from keeping the group trending on Twitter from time to time. In October 2020, the group reissued their 2000 record Stankonia for the album’s 20th anniversary and shared unreleased remixes.
We'd love to hear Paul McCartney's take on this one.
