This will be the first time Mimi returns to the VMAs stage in 20 years, when she presented this year's host, LL Cool J, with his Video Vanguard Award. Mariah made her VMAs debut in 1991, performing “Emotions” on the show.
Everything has been coming up Carey this year, as the "Type Dangerous" singer is on the cusp of her 16th studio album release, Here For It All, on September 26. She's also up for Best R&B Video at this year's awards.
Previous Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipients also include Katy Perry, Shakira, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliott.
The VMAs return live to New York’s UBS Arena airing coast-to-coast Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8PM ET / 5PM PT on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. You can find the full list of nominees here.
