The Recording Academy is finally prepared to announce the GRAMMY nominations for 2024, and with the help of a few stars no less. Previous winners Kim Petras, Jon Bon Jovi, Jeff Tweedy, Samara Joy and “Weird Al” Yankovic are among this year’s presenters, showcasing just how multi-faceted the ceremony will be.
In fact, the GRAMMYs even expanded their award categories for the coming year. Previously known as “The Big Four,” the general field holds GRAMMY awards like Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Record of the Year. These awards are principal to the GRAMMYs as a whole because a majority of academy members can vote on their winners. As of 2024, the awards for Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year will move to this field as well, granting songwriters and producers that same notoriety. “These are very important crafts,” the Recording Academy’s CEO Harvey Mason Jr. told Billboard of the change. “These are some of the people and members that our music community is built on.” The nominations for this general field will also decrease from 10 to 8 for voter convenience.
These changes will surely make the nomination announcement a historic one, and its livestream, more than worth watching. The announcements will stream live this Friday at live.GRAMMY.com and through the Recording Academy's YouTube channel. The livestream also includes pre and post-show coverage.
The official announcement schedule, though subject to change, is as follows:
10:45AM ET / 7:45AM PT: GRAMMY nominations pre-show
11AM ET / 8AM PT: Nominations livestream begins
11:25AM ET / 8:25AM PT: Nominations livestream ends
11:25AM ET / 8:25AM PT: GRAMMY nominations wrap-up show
