The award show will air live Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on September 12 at 8PM ET/PT. Diddy will be the third person to ever receive this award following the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2022 and Foo Fighters in 2021.

Diddy is truly making a comeback this year as this will be his first musical performance on the show since 2005 where he was both a host and a featured performer.

This VMA performance will come just three days before the release of his comeback album, The Love Album: Off The Grid, his first proper solo album since 2007.

In addition to the Global Icon Award, Diddy has been nominated for four awards at this year's show: Best Collaboration for both “Gotta Move On” and “Creepin’ (Remix),” Best Rap, and Best R&B.

Aside from Diddy, Lil Wayne, Doja Cat, Anitta, Demi Lovato, and more will also be performing at this year's show and there has been rumors of a Hip-Hop 50 tribute performance.
