Ray Williams was a trailblazer, making history as the first African American to start in two sports—football and baseball—at Clemson University. A gifted athlete, he left an indelible mark on Clemson’s athletic legacy, earning a well-deserved induction into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame.

Following his collegiate success, Ray went on to play professionally in both the NFL and MLB, suiting up for the Cleveland Browns and the Seattle Mariners. His versatility and determination on the field reflected his relentless work ethic and passion for the game.

After his playing career, Ray transitioned into a successful 25+ year career as an insurance agent with Allstate, where he continued to impact lives with his leadership and commitment to excellence. His love for Clemson never faded, and he dedicated his time to mentoring student-athletes, offering guidance and wisdom to the next generation. His service extended beyond sports, as he played a vital role on multiple boards of directors, always striving to uplift his community.

Ray Williams was more than an athlete—he was a leader, a mentor, and an inspiration. His legacy of perseverance, service, and excellence will never be forgotten. There was no better man.
