Meijer announced an involuntary recall of whole cantaloupe and some cut cantaloupe fruit trays and bowls out of the fear that they may contain salmonella.
Per the FDA, salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The recalled products include trays and bowls of various weights ranging from 6 to 40 ounces.
They were sold between September 26 and October 5 in Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.
The recalled products should have a sticker label with Kandy Brand from Eagle Produce LLC. In the case that no sticker is found, the product should be considered part of the recall.
The recall is part of a sampling investigated by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
