Who remembers anything from last night’s game other than Rihanna’s huge news to the world and how intense the actual game was? It makes you wonder, what exactly will this Super Bowl be remembered for? Definitely not the commercials.

Stephen Thompson sat down with Gene Demby and Kiana Fitzgerald to recap this year’s Super Bowl game on the Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast.
Kicking it off with Rihanna’s halftime show that quite literally broke the internet, the world is still raving about the “special guest” she debuted during her performance.
Kiana, like many others, shared that she was anticipating Rihanna’s return as we haven’t seen a studio album from her in almost seven years and a performance in about five so “I was gathering up the crumbs, I need all of this,” Fitzgerald shared.
And fans took to social media speculating where all of her energy was, but the bump quickly stole the show as she casually rubbed her belly throughout the performance. “It was really well put together, she was just along for the ride in a lot of ways,” Demby said.
But all in all, it was amazing to have seen Rih performing again and the set list was packed with hits. Demby shared how he believed she is one of few artists that actually has the catalog to pull off performances like this.
Transitioning into the sports talk and getting into the actual game– the LVII edition of the Super Bowl was definitely one for the books!
Demby highlighted that “this was the first Super Bowl with two Black starting quarterbacks” and shared that it “should be noted because that is a position that Black players have been shepherded out of.”
And what also made this a great game is the fact that it wasn’t a complete blowout, “it was a great super bowl in terms of there was never a moment where I was like this is a wash, this is a blowout,” Fitzgerald said.
However, while there were some highlights and memorable moments of this year’s Super Bowl, the commercials were a little bit “lackluster” according to Fitzgerald. “After a while it felt like I was watching a series of commercials for fame itself… the only thing that was being advertised was celebrities,” Thompson shared.
