St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School
Located in Lee’s Summit, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School (SMA) opened its doors in 2017 as the only Catholic high school in eastern Jackson County. Built on the legacies of Archbishop O’Hara, St. Mary’s and De La Salle high schools, SMA is home to 350+ students descending from 47 different zip codes with about 20% of them being non-Catholic. Through its unique community system, St. Michael provides a faith-based, co-educational learning experience where all students truly belong.
Now in its fourth year, SMA is ready to build upon its quality academics and enhance the athletics, which play a significant role in a student’s high school experience. While there are currently 21 athletic programs available, unfortunately, SMA is unable to host home outdoor competitions due to no outdoor athletic facilities. All games are currently played at a variety of different locations throughout the community, preventing the students and fans from experiencing the camaraderie of a “home field.”
The focus for this contest submission is for assistance to upgrade our practice field in order to host home soccer games and JV football games at SMA. Last year, we raised funds to improve the safety of the field and reseed it. Now, we are ready to take it a step further. The $15,000 would be used for the following enhancements:
Lighting
Scoreboard & wiring
Bleachers
Concession stand
SMA has already proven its athletic success thus far with multiple district championships and numerous all-state athletes. With the necessary funding to upgrade our practice field, our athletes would begin to have the true home field advantage they deserve.
This grant would have a significant impact on the current and future students at SMA for years to come! Thank you for your consideration in helping build opportunities for students in the Lee’s Summit community.
