Following the news that the Chiefs traded away star receiver Tyreek Hill, much has been made about how the team plans to replace his production. The team brought in JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marques Valdez-Scantling, but most would agree that they're still lacking that true #1 passing option. Especially in the loaded AFC West, is that by-committee approach going to be enough to succeed? Talking on 610's The Drive, Pro Football Focus' Sam Monson explained his reasoning.
"I think you can, if the committee is good enough, if the committee has a complete skillset amongst them and you're not deficient in one area," he said. "I think you can definitely get by sharing the ball around a group that's good, but not great necessarily. The critical thing we've been saying for a few years now is, Patrick Mahomes, for as good as he is, an incredible talent and player, we haven't seen him yet without a situation with a lot of help around him. Between Andy Reid as the offensive mastermind behind the whole thing, the coaching setup there, the fact that he's had Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill the entire way essentially, that most of the time he's had a very good offensive line in front of him. We haven't seen what happens if you take away Tyreek Hill or Travis Kelce for an extended period of time. We didn't want to see that, but that's what we're going to see now ... This is very different. This is something completely alien to the rest of Patrick Mahomes career so far."
