Kansas City Chiefs 2023 NFL Draft Picks

Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt (11) pulls in a first down catch Vanderbilt defensive back Ja'Dais Richard (34) during the first quarter at FirstBank Stadium Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, in Nashville, Tenn. Ncaa Football Tennessee Volunteers At Vanderbilt Commodores

Round 1, Pick 31: JALIN HYATT, WR - TENNESSEE

The Chiefs need to focus on the future of their offense. That starts with developing elite playmakers in the passing game. Jalin Hyatt has the big play ability the team is missing right now, and has a chance to turn into one of the game's premier deep threats. The true value is in the 1st Round contract, and having a guy with this talent on a rookie deal for longer makes him a must-have at 31. - Chris Uno Cero

Auburn Tigers defensive lineman Derick Hall (29) celebrates his interception as Auburn Tigers take on Missouri Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022.

Round 2, Pick 63: DERICK HALL, EDGE - AUBURN

Hall was a three-year starter at Auburn who would compete for playing time on the defensive line from day one in Kansas City. He recorded 24.5 tackles for loss in his last two seasons in college and is notably younger than most other players in this class at his position. He’s a tad undersized but plays with a tenacious motor that coaches fawn over. - Nick Schwerdt

Nebraska Cornhuskers wide receiver Trey Palmer (3) catches a touchdown in front of Iowa Hawkeyes defensive back TJ Hall (6) at Kinnick Stadium.

Round 3, Pick 95: TREY PALMER, WR - NEBRASKA

6’0” 192 lbs.  Ran a 4.33 40 at the combine which was the fastest time ran by a WR.  Was a transfer from LSU but the speed is off the charts. 71 catches for 1043 yards and 9 td’s last year.  Chiefs lose Mecole who had 4.33 speed so they add it with Trey.  Had 237 yards receiving against Purdue this year.  He was very limited in returning kicks but returned a kickoff and punt for a TD at LSU. - Jay Binkley

Kansas State Wildcats running back Deuce Vaughn (22) celebrates his touchdown scored against the Alabama Crimson Tide during the first half in the 2022 Sugar Bowl at Caesars Superdome.

Round 4, Pick 122: DEUCE VAUGHN, RB - KANSAS STATE

He’s not the perfect fit for the Chiefs backfield. But he has the skillset the Chiefs covet in their running backs. He can gash defenses as a rusher and receiver. His size (5’5 179) makes him a liability in pass protection, but his athleticism makes him the perfect gadget player in Andy Reid’s offense. He could be explosive with just a handful of touches per game, much like Darren Sproles, the player he’s most compared to. - Chris Uno Cero

Penn State Nittany Lions tight end Zack Kuntz (82) runs with the ball past the tackle of Maryland Terrapins linebacker Chance Campbell (44) in the fourth quarter at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.

Round 4, Pick 134: ZACK KUNTZ, TE - OLD DOMINION

In a class full of freakishly athletic tight ends, Zack Kuntz may take the cake. Kuntz turned heads with his testing at the combine, notably posting a 40-inch vertical and running 4.55 second 40-yard dash. At 6’7” and 255 pounds, athletes like Kuntz don’t come around very often. He will be a major project but has the rare traits worth taking a risk on. - Nick Schwerdt

American defensive lineman Zacch Pickens of South Carolina (3) spars with American offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri of Old Dominion (59) practices during the third day of Senior Bowl week at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.

Round 5, Pick 166: NICK SALDIVERI, OL - OLD DOMINION

6’6” 318 lbs.  He has the versatility Andy Reid looks for on the offensive line.  Can play outside and can play on the inside and quick enough to pull.  He can even play center in a pinch.  They talk about having versatile guys that can play inside and out and he can do it all on the offensive line - Jay Binkley

San Jose State Spartans defensive lineman Viliami Fehoko (42) tackles Portland State Vikings running back Andrew Van Buren (21) during the fourth quarter at CEFCU Stadium.

Round 6, Pick 178: VILIAMI FEHOKO, EDGE - SAN JOSE STATE

The word most commonly used by the Chiefs when talking about prospects is “versatility”. Fehoko adds that to this team. He can play outside on the edge, or inside as a 3-tech on pass-rushing downs. He’s the kind of power rusher the Chiefs covet on their DL, and has the kind of aggressiveness the Chiefs like. He likely won’t be a future starter, but he can be moved around a lot, similar to the way that Mike Danna is now. - Chris Uno Cero

Purdue Boilermakers cornerback Cory Trice (23) deflects the pass intended for Northwestern Wildcats wide receiver Donny Navarro III (80) during the NCAA football game, Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue won 17-9.

Round 6, Pick 217: CORY TRICE, CB - PURDUE

This was purely a value play for me. Trice is routinely being mocked in the 4th or 5th rounds so seeing him available late in the 6th was a no-brainer for me. It may seem like to the naked eye that the Chiefs are set at cornerback, but with L’Jarius Sneed’s contract set to expire and the jury still out on some of the younger players in this group, Trice could provide some quality depth late in the draft. - Nick Schwerdt

TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Max Duggan (15) looks to pass the ball against the Georgia Bulldogs during the first quarter of the CFP national championship game at SoFi Stadium.

Round 7, Pick 249 MAX DUGGAN, QB - TCU

Was destined to take a QB in the later rounds.  Andy loves a backup QB he can trust.  With the QB market drying up for past starters I would draft a guy like Stetson Bennett or Max Duggan if you went QB in the draft.  He is almost 6’2” and runs a 4.52 40 and finished 2nd for the Heisman and has big game experience with a college football playoff win. - Jay Binkley

National defensive lineman Lonnie Phelps Jr of Kansas (9) practices during the third day of Senior Bowl week at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.

Round 7, Pick 250: LONNIE PHELPS, EDGE - KANSAS

This is another move to add depth and versatility to the DL. Phelps is undersized to be an every down EDGE in the Chiefs system, but he has the athleticism to be able to contribute to the rotation. He ran a 4.55 40 at the Combine and had 31 bench reps, so he’s plenty fast and strong. He has technical issues with his pass-rushing approach, but his upside could make him a value pick to end the draft for the Champs. - Chris Uno Cero
