Kansas City Chiefs 2023 NFL Draft Picks

ROUND 1 PICK 31: DALTON KINCAID, TE - UTAH
I don’t care whether they’re a wide receiver or a tight end - the Chiefs need pass catchers, and this guy is the best in the 2023 draft class. I was surprised to see him hanging around at pick 31, but with so many talented tight ends in this class and some back issues keeping Kincaid from testing at the combine, it’s not out of the question. He’s a YAC machine and he has the athleticism to be a threat at all three levels. Andy Reid loves having multiple tight ends on the field and Kincaid would be another chess piece for him to torment defenses with. - Nick Schwerdt

ROUND 2 PICK 63:JONATHAN MINGO, WR - MISSISSIPPI
Quickly becoming one of my favorite WR’s in the draft. I have been thinking that the 5-8 receiver picks in the draft could have better than WR picks 1-4 this year. Mingo is 6’2” 220 lbs and ran a 4.46 40 at the combine. Mississippi has been producing some great receivers in the second round: DK Metcalf, A.J.Brown. He fits the mold of the type of physical receiver that the Chiefs covet. - Jay Binkley

ROUND 3 PICK 95: KOBIE TURNER, DL - WAKE FOREST
Without any obvious choices at the EDGE, I went for potential with DT Kobie Turner. This kid went from being a walk-on at Richmond as a freshman to being a starter at Wake Forest his senior year. He’s someone who could be an immediate asset as an interior run defender, with the potential to play the 3-tech in the pass rush at a high level. He’ll take some seasoning, and lacks the size the Chiefs enjoy with Chris Jones, but he could earn some playing time on a defense that could use some pass rushing help on the interior. - Chris Uno Cero

ROUND 4 PICK 122: ISAIAH MCGUIRE, EDGE - MISSOURI
It’s nearly impossible to over invest in the defensive line. At 6-4, 270 lbs, McGuire is physically impressive and has athleticism to pair with it. He couples his long frame with violent hand movement to force his way into the pocket. He will need to polish some things up if he wants to be an every down player in the NFL, but he has the chops and the measurables to make him a solid round 4 selection. - Nick Schwerdt

ROUND 4 PICK 134: NICK SALDIVERI, OL - OLD DOMINION
6’6” 318 lbs. He has the versatility Andy Reid looks for on the offensive line. Can play outside and can play on the inside and quick enough to pull. He can even play center in a pinch. They talk about having versatile guys that can play inside and out and he can do it all on the offensive line. The rest of the NFL is catching on as he has already had 15 top 30 visits with teams - Jay Binkley

ROUND 5 PICK 166: EVAN HULL, RB - NORTHWESTERN
The Chiefs could use some late-round depth at RB, and this guy fits the mold they like. Similar in size to Pacheco, Hull is good at everything the Chiefs covet, aside from pass protection. He does have potential in that category though because he’s pretty strong. He could be a solid second option, with the talent to start if the team needs him to. - Chris Uno Cero

ROUND 6 PICK 178: VILIAMI FEHOKO, EDGE - SAN JOSE STATE
What Fehoko lacks in prototypical athleticism he makes up for with technique. He has a refined set of moves that you don’t typically find in day three prospects. He lacks the top-tier athletic traits that will cap his ceiling as a pro, but his polish and energy should lead him to being a rotational defensive line piece. - Nick Schwerdt

ROUND 6 PICK 217: HUNTER LUEPKE, FB - NORTH DAKOTA STATE
Do it all type of player for NDSU. He was the MVP of the 2022 national title game 2 years ago. The Chiefs don’t have a fullback but like to have one around. Luepke is much more than a fullback; he can be a tailback and also line up as a tight end. Ended his career with 24 touchdowns rushing on 1665 yards for 6.1 per and ended up with 38 catches for 494 yards and 9 touchdowns receiving. Great hands that could be a weapon for the Chiefs in short yardage situations. -Jay Binkley

ROUND 7 PICK 249: LONNIE PHELPS, EDGE - KANSAS
Phelps isn’t the prototypical size that Spags likes, but he does have great physical attributes to be a rotational EDGE. He’s an incredible athlete that tested well at the combine. At the very minimum, he could contribute on special teams. But with some improvement, he could be an asset on pass rush downs. - Chris Uno Cero

ROUND 7 PICK 250: TRE TUCKER, WR - CINCINNATI
If the Chiefs are looking for someone to fill the “Mecole Harman role” in their offense, Tucker could be an ideal candidate. He was a high school track star and clocked a clean 4.40 40 at the NFL Combine. Like many of the receivers in this class, he’s undersized at 5-8, 182 lbs which will limit his ceiling vs. NFL defensive backs. But he the elite combination of speed and quickness which at the very least would make him a return specialist at the next level. - Nick Schwerdt
This has been mock 3.0–thanks for checking it out, we will see you this week on Chacter Concerns–Thursday 6-9.
