There were plenty of memorable moments in last night's Chiefs-Raiders game, but perhaps none more than Chris Jones' roughing the passer penalty in the second quarter. Jones got to Raiders QB Derek Carr and knocked the ball loose, in the process landing on him and drawing a penalty that was, by all accounts, a pretty terrible call. The Chiefs were down two scores at that point, and though the call gave Las Vegas a new set of downs (not to mention the ball back), there was clearly a shift in energy after that call. Speaking to 610's Fescoe In The Morning on Tuesday, Chiefs Insider Pete Sweeney explained what it was like to be at Arrowhead for that moment and how it affected the game overall.
"I've never seen anything like that," he said. "It was such a weird set of circumstances in the fact that, I think if the Raiders go down and score a touchdown and eventually win the game, I think it might have turned ugly. I'm not saying that definitely happens, but we've seen situations at other stadiums before where fans are so upset, they feel so jaded, that things start happening like fights, or things on the field. I think the crowd was that mad. And what happened in that moment is that I think it just turned everything around. The entire feel of the game turned around. So what could have been a really bad situation ended up being a really good one for the Chiefs. Because you could tell Andy Reid was hot, Patrick Mahomes was hot – they go into the locker room and are probably pumping each other up. And they just looked like a completely different team in the second half. What was supposed to maybe give the Raiders the game, I think, turned everything around for the Chiefs."
