(610 Sports) – Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire had seen his opportunities dwindle over the past several weeks, taking a backseat to rookie seventh-round draft pick Isiah Pacheco. Now the former first-round pick is being officially sidelined, after the team announced on Wednesday that Edwards-Helaire will miss at least the next four games while on IR.
The announcement clears the way for Isiah Pacheco to handle the bulk of the carries out of the backfield moving forward. The rookie back had assumed the starting duties in recent weeks, handling at least 15 touches in each game since since becoming the lead back.
Veteran third-down back Jerick McKinnon, who had been handling the bulk of the pass-catching duties, should expect to see more action. The absence of Edwards-Helaire could also bode well for Ronald Jones, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter, who could make his season debut in Week 12 action when the Chiefs take on the Los Angeles Rams at Arrowhead.
