(610 Sports) – As NFL free agent negotiations kick off, the Chiefs are looking to create some cap space and keep veteran defensive end Frank Clark in Kansas City.

According to Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, the Chiefs are working to restructure Frank Clark's contract.

Clark is entering the fourth year of a 5-year $105.5 million deal that he signed with the Chiefs after being traded from Seattle in 2019. Clark currently carries a $26 million cap hit for 2022 and the team could save $12.7 million in cap space if they were to release him outright but would still cost $13.6 million in dead cap.

The veteran defensive end was a major part of the Chiefs Super Bowl Championship run in 2019, recording 5.0 sacks and five tackles for loss in three postseason games. Unfortunately, his production has dipped over the last couple of seasons and the contract numbers no longer added up to his production.
