(610 Sports) – Eric Bieniemy's time as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator may be coming to an end. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there is mutual interest between Bieniemy and the Commanders for Bieniemy to become the team's new OC and that things are trending toward Bieniemy taking the job.

Bieniemy has been the offensive coordinator in Kansas City for the past five seasons, helping the team reach five-straight AFC Championship games and win two Super Bowls during that span. With all of the Chiefs' success during Bieniemy's tenure leading the offense, a head coaching job has remained out of reach, though he has interviewed with several teams over multiple seasons.

Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy, Bieniemy's predecessors in Kansas City, were both able to land head coaching gigs, leaving many scratching their heads why Bieniemy continues to be passed over. The consensus at this point is that he may need to move on to another organization and continue to have success as a coordinator, in order to prove his chops as an OC without Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, to move into the head coaching ranks.

Nagy, who returned to Kansas City as a quarterback's coach and senior assistant, following a short stint as head coach in Chicago, is widely assumed to be the leading candidate to become the Chiefs' offensive coordinator, if Bieniemy moves on from the team.
