AFC West: Could Packers' Aaron Rodgers really get traded to Denver Broncos?

NFL Network's James Palmer joined The Drive to discuss.

In case you're not up to date on all the juicy gossip coming out of Wisconsin, Aaron Rodgers maybe sorta wants out from the Packers. It was something about drafting a QB while he's winning MVPs and never getting his offense any help and kicking a field goal down eight in the final 2 minutes of the NFC Championship game. So he's done with Green Bay, apparently, and the NFL has their next great offseason storyline all ready for a summer full of SportsCenter special reports. Could Rodgers really be headed for Denver, though? NFL Network's James Palmer called into 610's The Drive to discuss:

"In my report, I mapped out why Denver is such a logical fit," he said. "Now, Denver can’t do anything with Aaron Rodgers obviously with tampering and things like that - he has to be made available for them to have the ability to trade for him. And obviously Green Bay is doing everything they can do to repair that relationship. And we’re going to see over probably the next month, them going to even further grounds to try and appease Aaron Rodgers and make him happy. Again, we’ll see how much push he has to make something happen.

"But him landing in Denver, in my opinion, is probably the #1 landing spot in terms of fit, and a team that is able to do this, right? Because obviously Aaron Rodgers salary is enormous. The cap hit is huge. The Broncos have the second-most cap space in football. I would think -- and this isn’t factual, just my opinion from watching the team closely -- that George Paton is in this position, doing this this offseason, and it was probably first potentially trying to go after Deshaun Watson. Obviously that completely changed with all that’s going on with the allegations off the field. The point is, he’s had it in mind to acquire a very large salary at the quarterback position - obviously he made a go for Matthew Stafford to. So they have the cap space. Then they also don’t have an expensive quarterback they have to get rid of, like some teams around the league would have to do. If you’re trying to get Aaron Rodgers, you’re going to have to find a suiter for, if you’re the Raiders, Derek Carr’s cap hit, David Carr’s salary. And the Packers probably don’t want a quarterback back in the trade, because they have Jordan Love. So they don’t want your expensive quarterback back."
