“On behalf of my family and the entire Chiefs organization, I would like to congratulate Dick Vermeil on being selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said.

Vermeil led the Chiefs for five seasons from 2001-2005, going 44-36 in the last coaching stint of his career. Vermeil's Chiefs were most well known for their high-powered offenses led by quarterback Trent Green, running back Preist Holmes and tight end Tony Gonzales.

His best season in Kansas City came in 2003 when he led the team to a 13-3 record and an AFC West Division title.

Vermeil led two different organizations to the Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles in 1980 and the St. Louis Rams in 1999. His Eagles team would lose to Tom Flores and the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XV, but his Rams team would defeat the Tennessee Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV, behind quarterback Kurt Warner and "the greatest show on turf" offense.

Vermeil coached in the NFL for 15 seasons and finished with a record of 120-109.
