The Chiefs' salary cap situation isn't a major issue heading into the offseason, but that doesn't mean there aren't moves to be made. Re-organizing the salary cap is a staple of most offseasons, and while talking with 610's The Drive on Wednesday afternoon, Spotrac's Mike Ginnitti laid out some ways the Chiefs may approach that in the coming weeks and months.
"Releasing Anthony Hitchens is an easy one, that's 8 million right out of the gate," he said. "A tougher release on that defense would be Frank Clark, but there's a world where you can free up almost $20 million to do that. So it's certainly got to be high on the list of consideration for cap purposes. In terms of restructures, Joe Thuney's getting restructured - that frees up $10 million. We're already at $32 million with those three moves. You can restructure Chris Jones, or maybe even extend Chris Jones. That's another $14 million plus freed right there. That's not even with Mahomes. If you add Mahomes ... you're over $50 million freed up right there with four or five pretty easy moves."
