Earlier this week, news broke that Kyle Long suffered a leg injury, later being reported as a fractured kneecap. The former first round pick is expected to miss a significant amount of time, although there is reportedly still hope he can be ready in time for the season's start. The Chiefs have plenty of depth on the offensive line, but how will Long's injury affect that unit going forward? Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney called into 610's Cody and Gold on Friday to explain:
"I think Creed Humphrey is the favorite for center," Sweeney said. "I could buy, maybe, the right guard being a rookie. Like, say Lucas Niang was able to win it, or Tre Smith was able to win it. I think at least to start the year, you're going to want to have a veteran on outside. I know that nobody was happy with the left tackle performance by Mike Remmers in the Super Bowl. The Carolina Panthers can agree with us there. But he was a really solid right tackle for the Chiefs, and I think they're going to want to have that experience at least early. If there's some development at practice and Andy Reid sees that and thinks he can upgrade ... I think during the year you may see a rookie kicked out, but at least to start the season, I think Remmers locked in at right tackle ... left to right, I think it's Orlando Brown, I think it's Joe Thuney, I think it's Creed Humphrey, skip that right guard position, and then I think it's Mike Remmers. I think right guard, though, is as wide open as any position on the team."
