It's hard to think of too many NFL teams that have more flexibility in this year's draft than the Chiefs. Kansas City has 12 picks -- 30% of which are in the first two rounds -- and only a few roster holes to address. So naturally, there's been plenty of speculation over the last month or so about how Brett Veach and company would attack draft weekend. Will they stay where they are and take the best player available? Trade up for a top wide receiver or defensive end? Speaking on 610's The Drive, Chiefs Insider Pete Sweeney gave his take.
"I think you inject a really talented receiver into this offense, especially with the receivers that you brought in," he said. "All 3 of these guys come in with a chip on their shoulder, and you round out the receiver room with a possibly elite Day 1 talent. I don't think the Chiefs are going to be too easy to beat if you're continuing to load up on offense and continuing to find a way to score 30 points. With Patrick Mahomes, this is always going to be an offense-first team, and then maybe you worry about defense. Again, I think just in his words, in saying that there are some real pockets in the second round when it comes to receiver, if they keep those two second round picks, I think you could almost see them go with the same position ... you take two shots at the position and see who could contribute sooner rather than later. But I don't know, I just get the feeling that they might like an edge a little bit earlier than anyone realizes, go up and get him, and then feel like, okay, now we have a significant Day 1 contributor across from Frank Clark. And then Melvin Ingram becomes icing on the cake."
