After a fairly disappointing stint as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, Matt Nagy is back in Kansas City. Nagy heads into 2022 as the team's senior assistant/quarterbacks coach, but could he be biding his time for another shot as the head coach? Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney called into 610's The Drive on Wednesday to give his theory.

"I've sort of felt this for a long time, even before the Chiefs opted to bring him back," he said. "Of course, he had to lose his job with the Chicago Bears first, but from what I can tell, this is a brain trust that is really fond of Nagy. And simply when it comes to EB, I know a lot of people would be like, 'Well, why doesn't EB get that opportunity?' Well, because Andy Reid isn't going to be done any time soon. He has a contract through 2025, and he could sign another short-term contract after that, we're not really sure exactly how it goes. By then, it's 2022 now, we think that Eric Bieniemy, is going to be on his, at that point you'd hope, couple years as a head coach if he's successful. At least move on to an offensive coordinator where he is calling the plays. Nagy would get the promotion to offensive coordinator in that scenario. And then what you have is a general manager in Brett Veach, if Andy Reid were to retire, who has such a good relationship dating back to his college days at Delaware with Matt Nagy. I'm talking down the road, 4 or 5 years of Matt Nagy working directly with Patrick Mahomes. At that point, who better than someone the GM likes, someone organization likes, to work directly with Mahomes? It's basically, I think in the Chiefs eyes, at that point, it's going to be as close to Andy Reid as you can get because of all the work these guys are going to do. Again, you have to see that success. It's not always guaranteed. Patrick Mahomes needs to look a little bit better next year, and he's got to play better in these future years under Nagy. But I think it just makes the most sense, and I think the organization feels the same way. In a longterm, again, 3-4 years, Matt Nagy could be the next coach of the Kansas City Chiefs."
