(610 Sports) – Chiefs' running back Jerick McKinnon called his shot in overtime on Sunday, just prior to ripping off a 26-yard game-winning run against the Texans in Houston.
McKinnon's game-winner capped off his second big game in a row for the Chiefs, with 122 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns against the Texans, which followed a 134 yards and two touchdown performance in week 14 against the Broncos.
Just a few moments before the 26-yard scamper. his longest play of the game, McKinnon said Patrick Mahomes looked at him and said, "Two hands on the ball. Let's go." I said, "I'm about to score." JuJu looked at me. He said, "I got your block, bro. Find me when you get out there."
"It worked out exactly like that. I made it to the second level, and I literally ran off of JuJu's block and was able to score," said McKinnon. "It's just crazy it worked out like that, man. It's crazy.”
McKinnon's game-winner helped the Chiefs lock up their seventh-straight AFC West title.
The recent resurgence from McKinnon comes at a great time for the Chiefs, as they head down the stretch trying to keep pace with the Buffalo Bills for the #1 seed in the AFC. Locking up the AFC West also assures the Chiefs of an eighth-consecutive playoff appearance.
