The Chiefs' loss to the Packers in Week 13 was marked by a series of late-game decisions by the referees that came under scrutiny from fans and journalists.

All three controversial calls came on the Chiefs' ill-fated final drive.

One of them -- a personal foul against Green Bay for a late hit on Patrick Mahomes -- went in the Chiefs' favor. Later, a pair of non-calls on apparent defensive pass interference infractions by the Packers hurt Kansas City.

For his part, Mahomes, always gracious in defeat, was not about to blame the officials for the loss in Green Bay.

Regarding an apparent pass interference against the Packers on a deep pass intended for Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mahomes took the high road.

"There's two things -- obviously, the [defender] got there early," Mahomes told host Carrington Harrison during his weekly appearance on "The Drive" on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City on Monday. "I think it's pretty clear to see that. But, at the same time, if I would have gotten the throw out further, it wouldn't have mattered. So, it's hard for me to blame the official, because I feel like if I make the throw the right way, then that flag wouldn't even be there. It would be a touchdown and we'd have a chance for a two-point conversion. So, some flags go your way and some don't, so it's just part of playing the game. And you have to continue to go."

The missed pass interference call came soon after Mahomes absorbed a massive hit from Packers safety Jonathan Owens along the sideline on a third-down scramble, resulting in a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty.

Many fans and journalists thought the hit was clean because replay appeared to show Mahomes was still in-bounds when Owens hit him.

But Mahomes thought the flag was warranted.

"All I was trying to do was run to get going forward out of bounds and obviously took a big hit. The ref deemed it -- throwing the flag. All you can do is move on and play the next play. I don't know if I was fully out of bounds, but I was running out of bounds, and the ref said it was unnecessary. So, all you can do at the end of the day is you don't worry about the officials. You go out there and play the best you can. Some flags go your way, and some flags don't."

So is there a solution to missed calls in the NFL? Mahomes isn't so sure.

"I mean, it's part of the human element of the game. It happens everywhere. It's kind of just part of the game, and you have to continue to fight and play, and win the game. It's hard. It's a hard job. The NFL is working the best they can to try to fix stuff that they see in live action, live time, but it takes learning from mistakes, learning from things they do well, and just like any other thing, get better and better every year."
