(610 Sports) – In 439 touches during his time playing college football at LSU, Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumbled the football just once, which is an amazing feat, considering the quality of the opposition he faced on a week-to-week basis in the Southeastern Conference.

For Edwards-Helaire, the trend of ball security would continue into his NFL career, logging 206 carries before putting the ball on the ground in the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 2 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. It was his first career fumble in the NFL and it came at the most inopportune moment, with the game on the line.

So, what does this mean for Edwards-Helaire's role in these moments, moving forward? If you trust what Patrick Mahomes has to say about it, and why wouldn't you, it doesn't change a thing.

Mahomes joined 610 Sports 'The Drive,' on Tuesday afternoon and addressed the late-game turnover, which happened with the team down just one point and in field-goal range for Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker.

When asked about his message was to Edwards-Helaire after the late fumble, Mahomes offered nothing but support.

"Yeah, he's gonna be a vital part of this team," said Mahomes. "He's gonna get the hard-earned yards when we need 'em, he's gonna catch the ball out of the backfield, and like you said, he can't let one play define him."

"I think that was one of his only fumbles, if not the only fumble he's ever had. We'll never be shy about giving him the ball in those situations and letting him make plays because we know he can do it," Mahomes added.
