Patrick Mahomes is not just looking to get back to the Super Bowl next season, he wants perfection.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback recently said in an interview with Bleacher Report that the only record he plans to break is to go 20-0.

“The only record I have my eye set on breaking, which would be new this year, would be going 20-0,” he said while promoting his charity’s golf event for 15 and Mahomies. “It’s not really a record to be broken, I guess you could say, I think 19-0 is the record right now. So going 20-0 would be awesome.”

The only team to go undefeated in NFL history was the 1972 Miami Dolphins, who went 17-0 under legendary head coach Don Shula.

The 2007 New England Patriots came close, going 16-0 in the regular season, but unlike that Dolphins team, the 07 Patriots failed to finish the job in the playoffs — finishing 18-1 after losing to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

The NFL added an extra regular season game to the schedule this year, making it the first time any team could potentially go 20-0.

The Chiefs went 14-2 last season, but fell to the Tampa Bay Bucs in the Super Bowl — costing Mahomes a chance at back-to-back championships.

The extra game certainly makes the task even more challenging, especially with decisions to be made late in the season on whether or not to rest starters if a playoff berth, or bye, is already clinched.

Mahomes was banged up in the playoffs last season, hampered by a foot injury he needed surgery on following the Super Bowl.

It will be quite the lofty goal to pull off, but Mahomes has amazed everyone since he came into the league and this would certainly be one way to continue to do so.
