Patrick Mahomes reveals what rule he'd add if he were commissioner

Rich Eisen really needs to continue this trend of giving his guests hypothetical NFL commissioner powers, as the answers have been entertaining, informative and, sometimes, downright ridiculous. Take, for instance, the hilarious Larry David's answer if he had the might of Roger Goodell over the league.

Ahead of Patrick Mahomes' Week 8 matchup against the New York Giants, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was asked the same question by Eisen on his "Monday Night Hotline," and we got an answer that was a little bit more serious.

"Ooh, I don't even know," Mahomes said with some hesitation. "I would say, uh, if I had to make a rule change, maybe — I don't know — maybe give us another bye week or something like that? I think the guys would like that."

With an extra game added to the schedule, it's a very long stretch for some teams — like the Colts, Dolphins, Patriots and Eagles, whose bye comes in Week 14 — so maybe it's not too outlandish to ask for an additional brief respite in the middle of the schedule. Eisen joked that it sounded less like an NFL quarterback and more like a new father doing the talking, and Mahomes couldn't deny that that could've been the case.

"That might be. Might be getting a little older now, I understand the toll it takes on your body and stuff like that," Mahomes said. "But some of these vet guys, I'm sure they would appreciate that.

"It's (fatherhood) been amazing, honestly. To be able to go home and see that little girl every single day, it truly is an awesome feeling and we're almost crawling now, we've gotten teeth. She's saying, 'ah, ah,' which, to me, is really close to 'da da.' But Brittany says it's really close to 'ma ma,' so we're kind of battling that one out, too."

Mahomes and Brittany Matthews welcomed his baby daughter, Sterling Skye Mahomes, into the world on February 20, 2021, and her first Halloween (pictured above) looks to have been a success. Hopefully, Mahomes' post-Halloween clash with the Giants is a bounce-back effort for the star QB after a scary Week 7 effort.
