In Week 2, Patrick Mahomes finally revealed that he is not, in fact, a robot during the month of September, throwing his first interception ever in the opening month of the season against the Ravens. He called it a "dumb" interception and acknowledged that it was "one of the worst" he's ever had.

In Week 3, Mahomes submitted a new candidate for the worst interception he's ever had, and it couldn't have come at a worse time.

In a two-minute drill in a tie game between his Chiefs and the Chargers, Mahomes had a chance — and the confidence of pretty much every NFL fan out there — to lead a game-winning drive. He had thrown an interception earlier in the game, but it wasn't necessarily one that was his fault, as it bounced right off the hands of a receiver and was also the victim of an absolutely incredible defensive play.

Other than that pick, Mahomes was having a typical game, with three touchdowns to three different targets and solid production from studs Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill. There was no reason to think he couldn't mount a good offensive drive from that point on... but there was also no reason to think he'd make the ill-advised pass that he made to give him pick No. 2 of the game and No. 3 of September.

The league's biggest fans, analysts and personalities couldn't believe their collective eyes at the play, and the social media outburst that resulted is a good indication of that.

Mind you, this isn't some league-average quarterback that these tweets are about here. These are things we'd never expect to hear about Mahomes, the choice for the very best player in football based on the NFL's annual player-voted Top 100 list. And he even got a chance to get the ball back and make up for his mistake after the Chargers boldly went for a touchdown (and converted) before the Chiefs had used their final timeout, but he didn't have any luck. The Chiefs are now 1-2, and though Mahomes was the reason they were in the game, he was also a big reason that they were out of it when it was all said and done.

With that said, the Chiefs have had some tough assignments out of the gate in the Browns, Ravens and Chargers, and Mahomes and company should have an easier time with upcoming matchups against the Eagles, Washington Football Team and Giants in some of the weeks ahead.
