Since trading for Melvin Ingram back in November of last year, people have wondered what the pass-rushing veteran's future in Kansas City would look like. Ingram provided valuable reps for the Chiefs' pass rush in his short, nine-game stint with the team, collecting a sack, forced fumble, and 15 tackles in six starts. This past week, team GM Brett Veach placed an unrestricted free agent tender on Ingram -- meaning that if the pass-rusher signs elsewhere before July 22nd, that would be reflected in the team's compensatory formula. Speaking with 610's Fescoe In The Morning on Wednesday, Veach explained where things stand between both sides.

"We're hopeful that we have an opportunity to do something there," he said. "The Ingram thing has kind of gone on in the way that we anticipated, where he's obviously played a lot of football and accomplished a lot in his career. Usually when guys get to this stage, they like to take a step back and spend time with their family, and take a look at the landscape of the NFL and what they have in regards to money on the table, opportunities, and teams. I think now we're in a position where, no matter whatever happens with Melvin, we'll be in the conversation and we'll have dialogue. I think that was what was important to us, just making sure we were always in touch. Those guys can go in many directions -- they may not want to sign until training camp ends, they may want to sign before, they may not want to play at all. We certainly really like Melvin, and had a great experience with him. We think he feels the same way. I think the motivation behind the UFA tender was just to make sure that we were in constant communication. If there's something we can do to get him here that makes sense for him, and makes sense for us, we'll certainly be excited about that."
