With a little over two weeks before the Chiefs' 2021 training camp gets under way, things are pretty quiet in Kansas City right now. Pat Mahomes looks healthy, the offensive line has been overhauled, and this season's impending revenge tour feels ready to get going. So what else is there to figure out before players begin to report to St. Joseph in a couple weeks? Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney joined 610's Fescoe In The Morning to give his answer:
"I think what's on our mind right now are two things," he said. "It's recency bias, and it's the fact that we're waiting to see how this Frank Clark thing pans out. We know that the charge came from the first arrest, and we're going to see what happens with the arraignment and stuff. It's going to be a slow process. The legal process is slow. And typically what teams do is wait and let that play out before they make a decision. But you never know in these type of situations - we don't necessarily see the contract language, we don't see behind the scenes. So, a little bit of wait and see with Frank Clark. I'm not sure we're going to get an answer any time soon.
"And then Tyrann Mathieu. We've been waiting for this contract extension seemingly the entirety of the offseason, and it's typically an unofficial deadline that teams, players, and representation like to get things like this done prior to the report date. The veteran report date for Tyrann Mathieu is July 26th, so I'm curious to see if the Chiefs are able to get something done by the time he is due to show up. I'm not sure you're going to want to enter this last season of his contract with the idea that OK, he could be an unrestricted free agent, especially with the franchise tag, and wanting to maybe give that to Orlando Brown Jr. next offseason."
