On Monday evening, news broke that Chiefs' defensive end Frank Clark had been arrested in Los Angeles over the weekend for illegal possession of a firearm. Though Clark's attorney has claimed that the firearm belonged to someone in the player's security team, the Chiefs have yet to comment on the situation. So what comes next for Clark and the Chiefs? Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney called into Fescoe In The Morning on Tuesday to give his thoughts.
"Yeah, really frustrating story to get, especially when you think about the year that Frank Clark is going into when it comes to just his importance on the field," Sweeney said. "This was a guy, less than a week ago, on Zoom podium press conference talking about 10, 15, 20 sacks and sort of a bounce back year and trying to look forward after last year."
"We did see some pushback about gun ownership and whatnot ... the fact is that this is the law that exists in California where he resides. If you're going to own and do that, you've got to know the rules. And apparently something was not right with this situation, and again, arrested twice. The NFL's already said it'll be reviewed under the conduct policy, and I think especially given the multiple arrests for this, popping up now twice, you're going to see some sort of a suspension. For a player that was talking about wanting to have a strong year after leaving some room to be desired last year, the word I keep going back to is 'unfortunate.' It's tough to start the year with a suspension, and I think that's what we're looking at."
