The Chiefs initial 53-man roster was released earlier this week, as fans got a first look at the team that'll take the field next Sunday when the team opens the season in Arizona. Though much of the roster was already set in stone, there were plenty of interesting nuggets – including how many young players will be suiting up as starters this year. While speaking to 610's The Drive, Chiefs Insider Pete Sweeney explained why he thought that was the biggest takeaway from the initial 53.
"For the Chiefs to be as young as they are at such an important position [cornerback], it just speaks to how well they've drafted," he said. "And I think they knew that early on in the preseason when they said goodbye to Deandre Baker and Lonnie Johnson. They felt good about their rookies, good enough about them. And we know about the offensive line being on a rookie contract. They're extremely excited about running backs. And you're right, 14 is a big number, for these draft picks to be playing legitimate snaps for the Chiefs."
