The Chiefs' offseason will get into full swing after the Super Bowl ends, but that hasn't stopped the speculation from getting a head start. One of the biggest questions going into the offseason is the future of safety Tyrann Mathieu, a staple on the defensive side of the ball over the past several seasons. Talking with 610's Fescoe In The Morning on Tuesday, Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney explained why a new contract doesn't seem nearly as likely as it did a few months ago.
"It's really confusing," he said. "I thought for the longest time that the Chiefs wouldn't let this player get to last year's training camp without a deal, and then it got delayed, and then you thought by the regular season, and they kept pushing the can down. It seemed like Tyrann Mathieu was upset right after the year, and then kind of calmed down when he got to the Pro Bowl with his family. He still seems to be hoping for the best - I'd like to see something figured out here, I just think he's too important to the team. But I guess I would say that my expectations on that front are at an all-time low."
