Ever since ESPN's Diana Russini reported that the Chiefs have been actively looking for a 'top wide receiver' on the trade market, speculation has gone wild about who that top guy could be. It stands to reason that Kansas City's wide receiver room isn't done with it's overhaul, and even with the addition of Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster, there's still a few holes on their roster there. So could Jacksonville's Laviska Shenault be an option? It's been a name that's gotten thrown around a bunch in rumors, and while talking on 610's The Drive, Chiefs Insider Pete Sweeney explained why it could -- under the right circumstances -- be a good fit.
"I'm a fan from a distance," he said. "I know that the speed isn't necessarily there, but we're looking at a player that was taken in the 2nd round, and all we've seen so far is what Doug Marrone and a half of Urban Meyer was able to do with him. There have been flashes -- he did draw some comparisons to Sammy Watkins coming out. You could see they're different types of players -- Watkins was more of a pure receiver, whereas this seems like another version of Cordarrelle Patterson or what would be a Deebo Samuel ... I think, if you're going to make that move, it's now, before [new Jaguars coach Doug] Pederson gets his hands on him. I believe in Pederson's mind, and I think of these three individuals -- Marrone, Meyer, and Pederson -- he's going to make the most of him. So if you like the player, I would get him in Kansas City now, because the price only stands to go up. If it goes any lower, you're not going to be interested anyway. So, what I'd say is that I have some interest there, and I think the Chiefs could really do more with him, but if you're going to do it, now is the key time for what would be maximum value. I think it'll only go up from here if you get interested later."
