Between now and the August 1st trade deadline, there figures to be more than a couple stories and rumors about which Royals players are most likely to be traded. All signs are pointing towards the team being sellers at the deadline, with names like Andrew Benintendi, Hunter Dozier, and Whit Merrifield being tossed out in hypothetical moves. And according to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, it's Merrifield who -- right now, at least -- seems likely to be on the move.
"That's the impression that some other teams are giving, at least," Heyman told 610's Cody and Gold on Friday. "Kansas City seems to be talking a little more seriously about potentially trading Merrifield. You know, obviously, he had a good contract for the team, really produced, and they were hoping to keep him a long time. But obviously they look like they're a year away or so at this point. The timing is not perfect, and as so often happens, he's not having his usual year. Good ball player, but like a lot of guys, his batting average is down this year -- he's not having his usual year."
