There's not a whole lot to talk about with the Royals these days -- there are only so many ways to discuss how the team's underachieved through the first third of the 2022 MLB season. So to change things up, 610's Fescoe In the Morning used their weekly interview with Royals manager Mike Matheny to connect him directly to fans. In this week's chat, Matheny only answered fan-submitted questions, including some advice on how they can stay engaged with the team despite the frustrating results.
"To each his own," he said. "There are fans that just love coming out and watching competition. Fans want to see good baseball. I get that. They want to see wins, yes, but they want to see teams that they can be very proud of. Every year I've been apart of it, so far, this team just fights and fights and competes. And it's usually a clean style of baseball whether we end up on the winning side or losing. Right now, I would say that you're not seeing the level of clean, hard-fought, all-the-way-through baseball that I know our fans are accustomed to seeing. And that becomes frustrating. So, what do we do? We keep working. That's all that we can do. We keep working every single day, coming in here and fighting our way through it. Just staying the course of knowing what we know is right and searching for that every single day."
