Negotiations between Major League Baseball and its Player's Association remain at a standstill, with the two sides not making much progress despite meeting on a few occasions over the last week. With Spring Training's usual start dates only a few weeks away, people are starting to wonder if, and when, either side is going to cave in. Talking to 610's Fescoe In The Morning, Royals' Insider Josh Vernier explained why he thinks it'll be the players.
"In my opinion, the players lost years ago," he said. "And now the owners can just sit around and wait for them to cave. And I think the players will eventually cave. Because when you dive into these negotiations, the players understandably are asking for a lot, but they're really not able to give much back to the owners, because the owners have already basically won with the luxury tax implemented quite a few years ago. So now that we basically have a soft salary cap -- that's all the owners have ever been after -- they've already won, to me. So I think the players cave prior to the season."
