(610 Sports) – Alex Gordon may not be patrolling the Kansas City Royals outfield any longer but the defense is still in good hands. Royals' outfielders Andrew Benintendi and Michael A. Taylor both won their first career Gold Gloves on Sunday evening.

Catcher Salvador Perez and second baseman Whit Merrifield were both nominated, as well, with Merrifield having a legitimate case to win the award — but both came up empty-handed. Nicky Lopez, who had a great case to win his first Gold Glove at shortstop, was puzzlingly left out of consideration as a finalist.

Benintendi and Taylor were both offseason acquisitions, with Benintendi coming from Boston via trade and Taylor signing a one-year deal as a free-agent, after spending the first seven years of his MLB career with the Nationals. Taylor was recently signed to a two-year extension with the club.

Benintendi and Taylor winning Gold Gloves continues a streak that now spans 11 straight years with a Royals player winning the award, the longest active streak in MLB.
