(610 Sports) – The Royals have traded left-handed starting pitcher Mike Minor to the Cincinnati Reds for left-handed reliever Amir Garrett, per team announcements.

The 34-year old Minor was in the second year of a two-year deal and was set to make $10 million this season. The Royals are reportedly paying Minor's $1 million buyout, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. Garrett is set to make $2.2 million this season.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Royals freed up $8.5 million in this trade and will be looking to add a right-handed starting pitcher.

In 28 starts for the Royals in 2021, Minor posted a 5.05 ERA and had 149 strikeouts in 158.2 innings.

Garrett, 29, struggled in his first year as the Red's closer in 2021, posting a 6.04 ERA with just seven saves in 63 appearances.
