(610 Sports) – Earlier this week, the Royals announced that 10 players on their MLB roster would be unable to travel with the team to Toronto for a 4-game series with the Blue Jays, due to being unvaccinated. One of those players, 2B/OF Whit Merrifield, spoke out on his decision to remain unvaccinated and in the process, made a remark that didn't seem to sit quite right with Royals fans.
“That might change down the road, if something happens and I happen to get on a team that has a chance to go play in Canada in the postseason, maybe that changes. But as we sit here right now, I’m comfortable in my decision,” said Merrifield.
At face value, many took it as though Merrifield was saying that he'd be there for his team and teammates, but only if they were good enough to make the playoffs.
Merrifield says that once he read that quote, he realized how it sounded and wanted to clarify the remarks, so he sat down with Cody Tapp to clear up any misconception related to his statement and stance on getting vaccinated.
