Royals Insider: So far, 2022 season has 'been an extension of 2021'

After an exciting opening series that featured Bobby Witt Jr's debut and Zack Greinke's return, it's been an inauspicious start to the Royals' season. Sitting at 3-5 and in 4th in the AL Central, the pitching staff has underwhelmed (26th in K/9, 18th in FIP, 15th in WAR) and the offense (28th in wRC+, 29th in wOBA, 28th in WAR) has been one of the worst in baseball. Basically, as Royals' Insider Josh Vernier told 610's The Drive, the 2022 season is already starting to feel a lot like 2021.

"It's been an extension of 2021," he said. "For as much anticipation as there was for Greinke, and Bobby, and the rest of these young starters, what we've watched over the first six games has looked a lot like the 2021 Royals. Sure, there's a silver lining in just about everyone's performance. Sure, you see the flashes from Dozier, Mondesi, and Keller. You see the ability in Hernandez and Lynch. But we were talking about these things last spring and last summer. And it's just hard to talk about those same things, it's hard to hear those same things if you're a fan. You want to see results, and results are yet to be seen."
