Every week, Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, celebrating women who've conquered challenges and emerged stronger. The honoree receives an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is showcased on-air Fridays at 7:15 AM with Christine and Salt.
This week, we're shining the spotlight on Debbie Ponte of Waterbury, the principal at Middlebrook Elementary School in Trumbull. Debbie's story is nothing short of inspiring, showing us the power of proactive health decisions. It all started with a routine mammogram. Like many of us, Debbie went in without giving it much thought, especially since cancer doesn't run in her family. But when she received a letter in the mail, calling for further imaging on one of her breasts, she knew it was time to pay attention.
What followed was a journey filled with tough decisions. From biopsies to the choice between a lumpectomy or a double mastectomy, Debbie faced each challenge head-on, opting for full removal of both breasts and reconstructive surgery. And when the results came back, confirming more pre-cancerous cells than initially expected, she knew she had made the right choice.
Here's the kicker: Debbie almost skipped her mammogram this year. But thank goodness she didn't! Her decision to prioritize her health not only saved her life but also ensured she'll be there for her kids for years to come.
Listen to Debbie's incredible story in our interview below, where Christine and Salt chat with her about the courageous choices she made and how she did it all for her children, so she can confidently say, "Mom is gonna be okay."
If Debbie's story has inspired you (as it has us), don't wait another moment to schedule your yearly mammogram. Because when it comes to our health, being proactive is key. Make that call today!
