Every week, Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, celebrating women who've conquered challenges and emerged stronger. The honoree receives an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is showcased on-air Fridays at 7:15 AM with Christine and Salt.

Meet Our Badass Woman of the Week: Heidi Voight of Farmington. Yes, THE Heidi Voight—you’ve welcomed her into your home for years as a trusted morning anchor on NBC Connecticut. But now, Heidi is stepping away from the anchor desk, not for another career move, but for something far more personal: the fight for justice for her mother.

in February 2023, Heidi received the life-changing news that her mother, Claudia Voight, had died in her Vermont home. At first, authorities believed it was a natural death. But Heidi, trusting her instincts, pushed for an autopsy. The findings were chilling—her mother had been murdered. The suspect, Shawn Conlon, was later charged with second-degree murder. Even more disturbing, he had been a suspect in a separate 2018 strangulation case in Connecticut.

Through grief and unimaginable loss, Heidi has become an advocate for justice, refusing to let her mother’s story fade. She stayed silent for nearly two years but now says, “We will fight for accountability and change.”

After a decade at NBC Connecticut, Heidi’s last broadcast was Sept. 24, 2023. She had initially returned after her mother’s death but left again following a serious health scare that landed her in critical care. Now, she’s stepping away for good to focus on her family, her daughters, and the fight for justice.

While Heidi is pausing from the news, she’s not done telling stories. She told Christine & Salt that she’s considering launching a podcast to amplify the voices of victims and survivors of violent crime. Her next steps? TBD. But if there’s one thing we know, Heidi Voight is a force to be reckoned with. Scroll up to hear her heartfelt long-form interview, where she opens up about her mother, her career, and her fight for justice.
