Shelton, Conn./WTIC Radio - A Shelton man is facing manslaughter and other charges in connection with a fatal crash from last year.

Under arrest is Carlos Beamonte, 39.

According to state police, it was January 12, 2025 that the vehicle Beamonte was driving along Route 8 northbound in Shelton struck another vehicle from behind.

That car wound up in the southbound lanes where it was hit by another vehicle.

A juvenile passenger in the vehicle Beamonte allegedly hit was killed.

Police say Beamonte left the scene and parked his car at an auto body shop, reporting the crash nearly an hour later.

In addition to manslaughter, Beamonte faces charges of evading responsibility resulting in death and physical injury, tampering with evidence, and assault with a motor vehicle.

Beamonte's sister, a Bethel police officer, was charged this week for allegedly hindering prosecution by helping her brother flee the scene.

Investigators says Beamonte was spotted on security video at a Fairfield bar consuming eight drinks, telling police later that he'd had only one beer.

The investigation also determined that Beamonte was traveling at speeds of up to 90 MPH in a 55 MPH zone at the time of the crash.
